David McDonald

is a New Zealand based artist. Working within both sculpture and painting, McDonald creates works with an often wry, sardonic wit. Keenly interested in the European tradition and the European colonisation of the antipodes, he examines the cross overs and the cross pollinations between the coloniser and the colonised.

By inverting traditional and non-traditional materials and subverting them into new uses, there is a multiplicity of content and narrative. Layers keep revealing themselves and narratives are continually exposed.

McDonald presented a number of new works in the exhibition ‘The Poor Traits’ 2012
